From a “Happy Coincidence” to Consistent Accuracy: An Interview with Superforecaster Brett Specter
New in our Meet the Superforecasters series!
Whenever we profile a Superforecaster, one theme returns: an almost insatiable curiosity about how the world works. Brett Specter embodies that trait. One of the Good Judgment Project’s original Superforecasters, Brett Specter first tried his hand at it at a friend’s suggestion. He calls it a “happy coincidence.” But the habits that sustain his long record are no accident.
In our latest Superforecaster profile, Brett argues that in forecasting, “winning” is all about accuracy, not rhetorical flair, and urges forecasters to score their information sources as carefully as they score their own predictions. He also reveals how debate inside the Good Judgment community pushed him to master options trading and deepen his understanding of markets.
Beyond forecasting, Brett remains an avid traveler (recent stamps include Latvia, Lithuania, Montenegro, and Georgia) and a steadfast voter-registration activist.
Whether you’re looking to sharpen your forecasting practice or are simply curious about how top forecasters think, see the interview here.
